Michaela “M” Neild is a queer artist, activist, educator, choreographer, and interdisciplinary dance-maker based in Western New York. Their work moves across dance, installation, film, improvisation, and community-based performance, often exploring interpersonal connection, liberation through storytelling, and the shared experience of space. M holds a Master of Fine Arts in Dance with a minor in Nonprofit Studies from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography from SUNY University at Buffalo.

M’s work has been presented across New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, including at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, Burchfield Penney Art Center, Albright-Knox, Buffalo Museum of Science, Columbus Museum of Art, Big Orbit Gallery, Music Is Art, and the Indeterminacy Festival. Their recent projects include it’s only human [nature], a self-choreographed solo presented at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival; Art In Motion: A Climate Call, an intergenerational and interdisciplinary arts retreat exploring climate action; and Impetus, a dance film honored by the ACDA Screen Dance Festival and later selected for Community Film Fest at Music Is Art.

In addition to their creative practice, M designs and facilitates free arts programs in the local community, works as a freelance grant writer, and founded Creative Care With Michaela, a sliding-scale arts and movement coaching practice. They are the recipient of numerous grants, fellowships, and awards, including a NYSCA Support for Artists grant, an Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, the NDEO Professional Development Scholarship, and support from the Vera Blaine Special Project Fund and Helen Alkire Dance Fund. Through both performance and community practice, M’s work reflects a deep commitment to access, care, collaboration, and the transformative potential of movement.
